Corolla Ocean Rescue
Lifeguard Olympics

The Lifeguard Olympics is an annual competition between lifeguard agencies in which teams compete in a series of different life saving events testing strategy, stamina, strength and speed in rescue simulations, equipment handling, endurance and relays.

Corolla Ocean Rescue has taken first place on the Outer Banks for the last six (6) years, including 2007.

2007 Lifeguard Olympics Summary

The northern Outer Banks local Lifeguard competition was held over the course of three evenings; one in Corolla, one in Nags Head, and one in Kill Devil Hills. Corolla placed first, ahead of Nags Head, then Kill Devil Hills, then Surf Rescue (Duck and Southern Shores). Kitty Hawk Ocean Rescue elected not to participate this year.

Corolla Ocean Rescue then sent a team to the regional competition in Virginia Beach, where they competed against Eastern seaboard teams from Virginia Beach down to the southern tip of Florida. Corolla came home with a second place plaque for the 'B' division (‘A’ division is for agencies with more than 50 employees. ‘B’ division is for agencies with less than 50 employees.) Corolla brought home medals in the run-swim-run, the line-pull, the rescue relay, flags, the 4x100 relay, the surf swim, and the iron-guard.

Corolla Ocean Rescue also sent Jess Koenig, Brian Burkhardt, Jake McCafferty, Mike McAlpin, Elle Moore, Thomas Musika, Sylvia Wolff, Mike Hudson, Cat Parks, and Jose Pena to Myrtle Beach to compete on a National level. Corolla took an impressive 6th place out of more than seventeen teams present. Corolla was the highest-placed North Carolina team!
