Operations & Specialty Care
EMS Operations
There are two additional organizations that support Corolla Fire and Rescue’s EMS operations on the Currituck County Outer Banks:
1. Corolla Ocean Rescue (COR) is a division of CFR and provides a minimum of 25 lifeguards during the summer months and peak visitor season. These lifeguards are either assigned to fixed towers or patrol the oceanfront on ATVs. All lifeguards are trained first responders or state-certified EMTs. COR provides first response rescue services in the inshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Currituck Sound. Water and marsh areas total 49 square miles.
2. Carova Beach Volunteer Fire Department (Station 7) responds to calls within the northern-most region of the Currituck Outer Banks. This area has only unmarked sand roads with limited access depending upon ocean tides and beach traffic. This volunteer fire department provides a valuable service by locating victims, providing an initial scene size-up via radio, requesting additional resources and supporting the ambulance crew upon arrival.
Specialty Care
Nightingale Air Ambulance from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA and Dare Med Flight from Dare County EMS are utilized whenever a patient’s chance of survival can be improved by decreasing transport time to an appropriate medical treatment facility.
Community Services
SEALS (Safety Education and Aquatic Learning) Kids' Mini-Camp
